After quite a long time (about 4 years) of struggling to find the perfect theme to start building a website on the WordPress platform, I finally chose and committed to the Cwicly toolkit. This is an extremely powerful toolkit that allows you to design and fine-tune the website layout to your liking. In this article, Bii will provide a detailed review of our experience using Cwicly for nearly a year to give you the most comprehensive overview of this toolkit.

Cwicly is a powerful toolset that helps you customize everything in WordPress.

Introduction to Cwicly toolkit

Cwicly toolkit to help you customize websites based on the Gutenberg core, which is a comprehensive toolkit optimized for the default block theme of WordPress. Cwicly can be seen as a combination of a page builder and Gutenberg, inheriting features similar to Elementor page builders such as Navigator and Oxi in the ability to work based on blocks through classes.

The Cwicly toolkit includes a dedicated theme accompanied by the Cwicly block plugin. In addition, the Cwicly package comes with a pre-integrated ACF Pro version to work with dynamic content blocks most efficiently, which is suitable for those who regularly work with dynamic content on their websites.

Author of Cwicly

Louis – Alexander Désiré is the founder of Cwicly. He is a WordPress expert who has spent many years researching and developing this toolset to provide the best user experience. With clean, concise, and lightweight code, Cwicly allows you to customize your website design freely.

Strengths and weaknesses of Cwicly toolkit

This is a new toolkit that has only appeared on the market for about 2 years. Cwicly can be considered a new phenomenon for WordPress. After the process of learning and researching for nearly 1 year working with it, Bii gives the following personal opinions and evaluations:

Advantages of Cwicly

  • The code is clean, compact, and extremely lightweight as it is based on the Gutenberg core for the best user experience speed.
  • It comes with ACF Pro and Cwicly pre-installed, designed to work deeply with dynamic content.
  • The fully customizable website fits website design requirements without limitations like most themes on the market.
  • Working with the Gutenberg core makes Cwicly much faster and more efficient than page builders like Elementor, WPBakery, and others.
  • This eliminates the need for many unnecessary plugins to optimize page loading speed.

Disadvantages of Cwicly

  • It takes a lot of time to learn and master this toolkit. Cwicly is more difficult to use than Gutenberg block editors (Kadence, Spectra, Stackable, etc.).
  • You have to design your website from scratch, without any pre-set features, and customize everything yourself.
  • It can be challenging for beginners to get started with WordPress.
  • There is no free version.

User experience review and evaluation

After almost a year of working with this toolkit, I would like to provide feedback based on my practical experience. These are my subjective opinions as someone who has no knowledge of coding, CSS, or JS…

User Interface

Cwicly has a somewhat complicated user interface with full functionality, which may cause difficulties for new or inexperienced users in initial usage. However, after learning and becoming familiar with this software, you will notice that Cwicly’s interface offers many more customization options than other page builders.

One thing I like about Cwicly is that it has its own dedicated navigation bar. You can perform actions such as block copying, duplication, and hiding very easily. This navigation bar works well and is more effective than Gutenberg’s default navigation bar.

List of blocks

Cwicly currently provides over 30 blocks that allow you to customize almost everything on your website according to your needs (layout, font, size, global colors, etc.). Additionally, most of the blocks are almost 100% compatible with Dynamic Content, making them very suitable for websites that want to create dynamic content.

Here’s a list of the currently available blocks:

  • Columns: Helps you create columns, and divide the structure into columns
  • Section: Create a separate area to contain most of the other blocks. Simply put, the Section is a container for all items.
  • Heading: Block helps create heading tags for the website, marking the website structure, improving SEO and user experience
  • Paragraph: Create text similar to the original Gutenberg text block, but with more customization and refinement options than the original Gutenberg text block provides
  • Image: Image block helps you insert images into your website, with more advanced editing features than Gutenberg.
  • Button: Block helps add a call-to-action button to the article, increasing conversion rates and click interactions
  • Accordions, accordion: This block helps you create collapsible sections, with the content being revealed when clicked, or applied to FAQs.
  • Tab Contents, Tab List: helps you create tab tags for content, compacting the layout structure to make it look more concise and user-friendly
  • Icon: add icons to articles
  • Video: Block helps you insert videos on hosting or on a third-party platform like YouTube
  • List: create and display lists as desired (The list of blocks in Cwicly you see is thanks to the List block)
  • Slider: supports image presentation for articles
  • Gallery: image library, helps you upload a photo album and display it in many layouts as desired
  • Modal: it’s a Popup, which will be activated when certain conditions are met
  • Menu: Block helps you add a menu from the WordPress editor to the original interface
  • Div: similar to the Section block, used to wrap the content inside
  • Maps: display geographic location maps on websites, articles
  • Swatch: applied to e-commerce websites through the Woocommerce plugin, supports creating variants for products
  • Input: block supports data entry, email, user information, entering product quantities to help you collect customer information more effectively
  • Fragment: This is a separate puzzle piece that can be used multiple times for many different structures
  • Filter: block filter applied to product filtering, articles, categories, etc.
  • Query: Query block helps you create search queries through multiple forms (tag, meta, taxonomy, Date…)
  • Repeater: Cwicly is perfectly compatible with ACF Pro, helping you create advanced Repeater queries
  • Taxonomy Terms: create custom types for articles, archive categories
  • Popover: similar to the Modal block, helps you create mega menus, as well as small annotations
  • Styler: helps you change the style, color, background font, etc. for any element on the page

Overall, the Cwicly platform provides a fairly comprehensive block that can meet over 90% of your requirements when customizing a website.

Compatibility capability

This is a specialized toolkit for Gutenberg, which is perfectly compatible with Gutenberg. Before using Cwicly, Bii had used many third-party block plugins such as Kadence, The Plus add-on, and Stackable… However, there is one common issue among these blocks, which is the occasional display error on the user interface (broken font, broken layout structure…)

In addition, this is the advantage and also the limitation of Cwicly, which is that if you want to use Cwicly blocks, you can only work with the original Cwicly-provided topics. This helps ensure the compatibility between blocks and displays well on many interfaces, but as I mentioned earlier, the disadvantage is that Cwicly does not support working on other themes (you cannot use themes such as Flatsome, Kadence, Blocksy … and install Cwicly).

Stability and real-world performance

The main reason Bii decided to use Cwicly to replace all other third-party page builders and blocks for Gutenberg is that Cwicly is a unified block as one, you won’t have to use blocks from many different parties → stability and experience on the website is always at its best.

The performance and actual loading speed of websites built with Cwicly are very good, which can be checked directly on this website. Since Bii uses Cwicly to build the entire structure for https://biiviet.com.

The price compared to the quality it brings.

49 Euro per year which is about 1,270,000 VND per year for 3 websites, averaging about 16 Euro or 425,000 VND per website per year. This is a fairly reasonable price compared to most themes being sold in the market.

Specifically, it can be compared to themes being sold on Themeforest with an average price of $49-69. Similarly, you can spend $59 per year to own an Elementor Pro page builder.

In addition, when you purchase Cwicly, you will also receive ACF Pro for free, which is an advanced plugin that works well with Dynamic content for your website.

Overall, Bii’s evaluation is that the current price of Cwicly is relatively cheap and quite worth the money you spend.
